For Charter School Administrators ·
What you'll accomplish
The domain-by-domain written responses that accompany your data in annual reports and renewal applications can consume 2 to 3 weeks of writing work, often squeezed into evenings. Using Claude to draft those narratives compresses the work into 2 to 3 focused sessions. You provide the facts; Claude writes the professional narrative that frames them effectively for an authorizer audience.
What you'll need
Find your authorizer's annual performance framework or renewal rubric. This is usually a PDF that lists the performance domains (Academic, Financial, Operational, Governance) and what "meets expectations" looks like in each domain. If you don't have it, check your authorizer's website or request it directly. You should be working from the official criteria.
For each domain, collect your supporting data:
Make a simple document with bullet points of your evidence. You don't need to write full sentences yet.
Open claude.ai → New chat. Give Claude the framework it needs:
I'm drafting narrative responses for our charter school's authorizer annual performance report. I need you to help me write professional, evidence-based narrative responses for each performance domain.
Context about our school:
- Name: [school name]
- Grade levels: K-8 (or your actual grades)
- Enrollment: [X students]
- Demographics: [X% free/reduced lunch, X% ELL, etc.]
- Authorizer: [authorizer name and type — university, state board, district, etc.]
- Charter term: Year [X] of [Y]
- Overall performance posture: [strong / improving / facing challenges — be honest]
For each domain, I'll give you:
1. The framework criteria we're being evaluated against
2. Our evidence and key facts
3. Any context you need to frame the response fairly
Please write 400-500 word narrative responses that are professional, factual, and framed to show what we've accomplished and where we're improving. The audience is authorizer staff who will use these to make a renewal recommendation.
Give Claude the framework criteria and your evidence for one domain at a time, starting with your strongest performance area. This helps Claude learn your school's context before tackling more complex domains.
Domain: Academic Performance
Framework criteria: [paste or type the academic performance criteria from your authorizer framework]
Our evidence:
- NWEA MAP results: [paste grade-level data]

Please draft the Academic Performance narrative response.
What you should see: A structured, professional narrative that leads with your strongest evidence, contextualizes challenges honestly, and describes your response plan.
Read the narrative for:
Request specific adjustments:
Work through each domain in the same way: paste criteria, paste evidence, get draft, refine. Complete domains in the order that makes sense for your school's story, typically starting with strengths.
After completing all domains, ask Claude to review them together:
I've now drafted narrative responses for all four domains. Please read them together and flag:
1. Any inconsistencies in facts or data
2. Any places where a domain's narrative contradicts another
3. Any claims that seem unsupported by the evidence I gave you
[paste all four narratives]
Once the domain narratives are complete, ask Claude to draft the executive summary:
Based on the four domain narratives I've written, please draft a 300-word executive summary of our school's annual performance for our authorizer. It should: open with our overall posture, mention our top 2 strengths across domains, acknowledge our primary challenge and our response, and close with our confidence in our ability to renew. Tone: confident and honest.
[paste your domain narratives]
